About the Residents Print E-mail
Last Updated ( Wednesday, 02 June 2010 )
According to the 2005 Census Bureau Survey,Atascadero is home to 27,130 people. Residents make the most out of living in an area surrounded by so much natural beauty. They spend time hiking local trails, playing at the beach, strolling around the Atascadero Lake Park or skiing at either of the recreation lakes that lie just to the north. Locals also enjoy visiting the Atascadero Charles Paddock Zoo, the Chalk Mountain Golf Course, the Sunken Gardens and its Wednesday evening Farmer’s Market, nearby wineries, and the many restaurants and shopping plazas in town. The City works hard to provide activities and events that build family and community closeness, such as Colony Days Parade, Stadium Park Festival, Tuesday Evenings in the Park, Friday Night Concerts in the Park, Children’s Day, youth sports teams and more. Each fall, residents celebrate Atascadero's history by re-creating “tent city,” a visual and interactive demonstration of what life in the Colony of Atascadero was like in the early 1900’s. Families also head over to the Sunken Gardens several times a year to have picnic dinners while watching movies on the city’s large, outdoor screen. Quality of life in Atascadero is of utmost importance.

Customer service to the City’s citizenry is also very important and the City staff works hard to ensure that services are delivered in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible without sacrificing quality.

Census Bureau News:

Address Canvassers are Taking to the Streets

April 2009

.

The 2010 Census has launched its next operation, Address Canvassing. A preliminary wave began on March 29th, and the mass effort launched on April 6, 2009. The entire phase will conclude by June 19, 2009.

.

During Address Canvassing, the Census Bureau will put to work approximately 140,000 people to canvass all known streets and roads throughout the country. The canvassers will identify every living quarter where people live or could potentially live, and verify more than 145 million addresses.

.

For the first time in Decennial Census history, census workers will confirm, add, and delete addresses using a GPS-equipped hand-held computer. Each computer is so secure that it will work only when activated by the fingerprint of its assigned operator.

.

Each building or structure will receive Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates to make sure it is also recorded in the right location.

.

Census workers also will update maps by adding new roads. This work will ensure that the census address list is complete so that everyone can be counted in the 2010 census.

.

Living with mountain lions on the central coast is very important. We live in a rural area with animals around us and in our yards.
