Walmart made the announcement today to the City of Atascadero that they will not be moving forward with their project that has been in the making now for the past ten years. The reason for the decision is the market has changed with a demand for e-commerce and online sales are at their highest.  Walmart is wanting to work with the City to make this a viable project for other potential retailers.

“While we are disappointed in the news, had it been announced four years ago, during the recession, it would have been more difficult to receive. However, the City will be working with new potential partners, and we are optimistic about the options that this retail location will offer,” said Mayor Tom O’Malley.
