Basement concrete and wall demolition activities continued.  Exploratory foundation excavations began exposing the existing footings at the interior and exterior of basement to determine design parameters for future micro pile systems to stabilize the structure.  During the exposure of exterior portion of test pit #7 at the northeast corner of the building, an abandoned underground concrete storage tank was uncovered adjacent the historic structure.  The tank was determined to have been used as a fuel/oil waste tank for the past boiler system.  The County Health Department was contacted, as well as the Hazardous Materials consultant, MECA, to confirm removal and soils testing requirements for complete remedial action of the tank.  The tank needs to be removed to implement foundation micro pile systems.  Structural, and Geotechnical Engineers will be onsite next week to review the exposed existing foundations.
