Burn Season has Closed for 2012

For Fire Hazard Reduction

Beginning December 2012, the Atascadero City Fire Department will open the Fire Hazard Reduction Burn Season. However, the public is reminded that the burn day status, whether it is a permissive burn day or not, changes daily and is determined by the California Air Resources Board and north county weather conditions. Residents must obtain the daily burn day status by calling (805) 461-5070, option 8.

The Atascadero City Fire Department strongly encourages residents to utilize alternative forms of disposal, such as the Waste Alternatives, Green Waste recycling container or the City of Atascadero’s Chipping Program. Burning should be used as a last resort.

Copies of Atascadero’s Burn Regulations and various waste alternative programs are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at City Hall, Fire Station 1 located at 6005 Lewis Avenue or on our website at Atascadero.org/burnregulations

The Atascadero City Fire Department has a zero tolerance policy and will issue citations for violations of the burning regulations.

Contact the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department at 543-4244.
The State Air Resources Board determines which days are appropriate for burning in order to limit air pollution and of those days, local fire officials determine burn days according to local conditions.
