The Atascadero City Fire Department is seeking donations to outfit and supply a new Disaster Response Trailer (DRT). The trailer has already been generously donated by a local beverage company, Jordano’s. Unfortunately, the city funds to develop the disaster response program were cut due to the current economic environment. However, because this piece of equipment will be a much needed asset to our community, the members of the Atascadero City Fire Department are looking for creative ways to put this vehicle into service. To accomplish this goal, the department hopes to raise $100,000 in private or corporate donations. These funds will be utilized to purchase specialized tools, equipment and supplies for the trailer.

Extended Response Capabilities
(Better for our Community)

The Atascadero City Fire Department will be able to use the DRT for a variety of technical rescue emergencies. These emergencies include, but are not limited to, high angle rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue and swift water rescue, earthquakes with building collapse, hazardous materials incidents, mass casualty incidents, airborne rescue support, large structure fires and terrorism related incidents.

Currently, the Atascadero City Fire Department responds to these technical rescue calls utilizing the two on-duty, staffed fire engines with a callback of the departments’ technical rescue team members. This system limits the ability to respond to other emergencies within the city. By having a dedicated DRT, the department would have all the equipment and tools necessary to mitigate the technical rescue emergency and allow the on-duty crews and equipment to be available for other emergency calls for service. Additionally, the DRT will be able to assist our neighboring fire departments, hospitals and utility companies that have limited technical response capabilities.

The Fireman's Ball is
Saturday, November 5th, 2011

The Fireman's Ball will be held at the Atascadero Elks Lodge this year, located at 1516 El Camino Real in Atascadero, California. The Ball is open to the public, includes cocktails, dinner prepared by the Atascadero Elk's Association, a live and silent auction and a live band. Semi-formal attire required. Fireman's Ball tickets are available at the Atascadero City Fire Department Station 1, located at 6005 Lewis Avenue or from any Atascadero Firefighter. The tickets are $35.00 each. So, come join us for this fun-filled evening of dining, dancing and fabulous auction items. The Atascadero Firefighter's Association's annual Fireman's Ball is one of the major fundraisers they host each year. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:00, with dancing to follow. Tickets are available at the Atascadero City Fire Department, Station 1, 6005 Lewis Ave. Please call the Atascadero City Fire Department at 461-5070 for details!

About the Fire Department

The Atascadero City Fire Department is an “all risk” Fire Department that responds to emergencies such as medical aids, structure fires, wildland fires, vehicle traffic collisions, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues and public service assists. The Fire Department operates from 2 fire stations with 6 fire engines, 2 command vehicles, a ladder truck and a technical rescue unit. The department operates with a total of 20 full-time and 18 Reserve Firefighters. The full-time staff includes 1 Fire Chief, 1 Fire Marshal/Code Enforcement Officer and 1 Administrative Assistant.

Our mission as Firefighters and Paramedics is to be professional, caring, and motivated as we provide emergency services to the Public.

Fire station 1 is located just outside of the downtown corridor at the corner of Traffic Way and Lewis Avenue. Fire station 2 can be found just south of Santa Rosa Road along 101 on West Front road. Look for the flags or the red lights at night!

The Atascadero City Fire Department, in conjunction with San Luis Obispo Fire Safe Council will be hosting Citywide Chipping Events Saturday April 7th and Saturday April 14th from 8-12 pm at the Atascadero Lake Park. We will also be participating in the Citywide Clean-Up hosted by Atascadero Waste Management at the City Public Works Yard on April 28th, 2012.
