



Historic City Hall Restoration Project
Penthouse demolition continues. The Club House, East Apartment, and 80% of the Kitchen penthouse structures have been removed. All debris was removed from the roof and loaded into the onsite bins for disposal. Next week the balance of the kitchen perimeter walls will be removed for disposal. The West Apartment removal will follow. Once all structures are removed the penthouse concrete topping slabs will be removed to complete demolition. Once complete, building protection will be put in place to protect all exposed openings following the penthouse demolition. The future contractors will maintain the building protection throughout the duration of work on the Historic City Hall.
On May 5, 2011, bids were received for the Atascadero Historic City Hall Project for Bid Package ACH-19, HVAC. Four (4) bids were received and Santa Margarita Construction out of Templeton was the lowest responsive bidder. Santa Margarita Construction's proposal has been reviewed and confirmed complete. Their proposal will be presented to Atascadero’s City Council on June 14, 2011 for approval as the awarded Prime Contractor for bid package ACH-19. If awarded, work will commence on July 11, 2011. Two (2) bids were received and Diani Building Corporation out of Santa Maria was the lowest responsive bidder. Dianis’ proposal has been reviewed and confirmed complete. Abatement and demolition continued at the roof top penthouses. Lead paint removal was completed and all lead paint debris was bagged and contained for disposal. The East Penthouse structure interior finishes, roof framing, and wall framing was removed and stacked for disposal. The West Apartment Penthouse interior finishes were removed, bagged, and stacked for disposal in preparation for structure demolition. All contained hazardous materials, and stockpiled general debris was cleared from the roof in preparation to complete the East Penthouse demolition. Onsite bins were filled, covered, and secured for disposal. Demolition of East Penthouse will be completed next week. Kitchen and Apartment Penthouse structure demolition to follow.
Penthouse abatement and demolition continued at the 4th floor roof level. The South Penthouse (Club Room) was stripped of all non-hazardous interior finishes, and the structure was removed. All demolition debris was cleared from the roof and loaded into the onsite bins for disposal. The removal of loose and flaky lead paint continued at the east penthouse (Apartment) and will continue into next week. The East penthouse structure will be removed upon completion of lead paint removal next week. The north penthouse (Kitchen) interior lead abatement and structure demolition will follow.
On April 20, 2011 bids were received for the Atascadero Historic City Hall Project for Bid Package ACH-17 Fire Protection. Three (3) bids were received and Alpha Fire Sprinkler Corp from San Luis Obispo was the lowest responsive bidder. Alpha Fire’s proposal has been reviewed and confirmed complete. Their proposal will be presented to Atascadero’s City Council on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 for approval as the awarded Prime Contractor for bid package ACH-17. Asbestos and Lead abatement continued at the roof top penthouse structures. Roofing tiles, floor and wall finishes were removed and contained for disposal. In addition, non-hazardous finish materials at the penthouse interiors were removed for disposal. Next week lead paint abatement at the interiors will continue in preparation for penthouse structure demolition and removal.
The penthouse demolition contractor mobilized this week. The fourth level rotunda floor was cleared of pigeon excrement for the contractors path of travel to perform abatement and demolition of the existing penthouse structures. Preparation for abatement began with the removal of all the loose brick on the roof. The brick was palletized and wrapped for storage for future reinstallation. Prior to reinstall, the loose brick will be cleaned and prepped for reuse. In addition, all existing surplus equipment was removed; existing kitchen fixtures, light sconces from the penthouse apartment, and historic radiators to name a few. Roof and lead abatement will begin during the school’s Spring Break (April 18th thru April 22), including the removal of the penthouse structures.
