Legal services for the City of Atascadero are provided on a contractual basis by the firm of Burke, Williams and Sorensen, based in Camarillo, California. Brian Pierik is assigned as the City Attorney.

The City Attorney’s office provides a range of legal services for the City Council, City boards and commissions, and City departments. Major day to day activities include legal advice to City officials and employees; drafting and reviewing contracts, opinions, resolutions, ordinances; defending the City, its officers, and employees in civil litigation; administrative, criminal, and civil prosecution of violations of the Municipal Code; contacts with citizens, the media and the bar on the City’s behalf; and networking with others through the League of California Cities.
