The City of Atascadero and A-town Park are proud to invite the public to a special “Outdoor Skate Area Ribbon Cutting” celebrating recent improvements to the facility. The event will take place on Friday, January 16th at 4:30 p.m., at George C. Beatie Skate Park, 5493 Traffic Way.

Recent upgrades to the facility include mill and overlay surface improvements of the outdoor riding area designed to enhance the experience both for skateboarders and scooter riders. These improvements have also brought with it a new layout that accommodates large skate areas while still maintaining dedicated ramps for scooters, creating a more inclusive and versatile space for riders of all skill levels. The City contracted Tatum Asphalt for the mill and overlay work.

In addition to the surface improvements, the facility has received a vibrant facelift, featuring a fresh exterior paint scheme with different shades of gray and a new bright orange canvas awning displaying the City logo and skate park name. The City contracted with Browder Painting and Shoreline Awning to complete the enhancements.

Over the past 17 years, A-town Park has been operated by Kevin and Andrea Campion, who have dedicated countless hours to maintaining the facility and providing a welcoming, safe environment for the community. From youth classes and camps to evening events for families, the Campions work closely with the City of Atascadero.

A-town Park offers 8,000 square feet of indoor space plus 7,000 square feet of outdoor skating areas, offering a supervised environment for skateboarding and scooter riding. The park also provides full rentals and a fully stocked Pro Shop. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 2 pm to 6 pm, Saturday, 12 pm to 5 pm, and Sunday 12 pm until 4 pm. Free skate is available Monday through Friday from 2 pm – 4 pm for students and outside of that time for $5 with a punch pass.

A-town Park has a history of involvement with the Monster SK8 program and has served as a starting point for several professional riders. Notably, A-town Park’s own professional scooter champion, Chris Farris, has achieved international success, first placing in multiple International Scooter Association (ISA) competitions for Action Space, and Best Trick, earning second place in the ISA Worlds Park Final and ranking #1 in the United States. Claire Parks is a two-time World Champ that just returned from Tokyo and placed Silver at the World’s competition. Chris and Claire’s journey from local riders to world-class competitors is a point of pride for the Atascadero community.

The City of Atascadero and A-town Park invite the community to join the celebration on January 16th at 4:30 pm. Refreshments will be available while supplies last. The event offers a great opportunity to tour the facility, learn more about programs and camps, and celebrate the continued investment in local recreation.
