San Carlos Vegetation & Barn Fire

On Saturday, August 2 at approximately 4:55 p.m., Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services responded to a barn fire at 8620 San Carlos that had extended into surrounding vegetation. Upon arrival, fire crews found a barn that was on fire that was into the surrounding vegetation. A coordinated response from local and regional agencies helped quickly stop the fire’s forward progress by 5:40 p.m. In total, 9 acres of vegetation were burned, and one barn was lost. Menderu, the Malayan Tiger at Central Coast Zoo, Passes Away at Age 17

The City of Atascadero and the Central Coast Zoo are mourning the loss of Menderu, the beloved Malayan Tiger, who has been a favorite at the Zoo since his arrival as a cub in 2008. Menderu came to the Zoo from the San Diego Zoo at just one year old and lived a long, healthy life at the Central Coast Zoo. He passed away at the age of 17 years old, a lifespan which is at the average life expectancy for Malayan Tigers in professional care, and well beyond what is typical in the wild. “…

Deodar Cedar Tree to be Removed from Atascadero Sunken Gardens This Week

A local tree contractor will be removing one of the heritage Deodar Cedar trees from Sunken Gardens in downtown Atascadero this week.  The removal is expected to take a day to complete, and East Mall will be closed during the work.  Businesses along East Mall will be open for business.  Parking is available in the City Hall parking lot on the corner of East Mall and Lewis Avenue or along El Camino Real. Aquatics Program Open Swim Schedule Reminder!

The City of Atascadero is proud to be offering Aquatics Open Swim Hours! The schedule offers regular weekly programming including Lap Swim, Monday through Friday from 12:00 – 1:30 PM, and Rec Swim, available Monday through Friday from 2:00-3:40 PM. Rates for drop-in Lap and Rec Swim are $5 per participant.  Swim Passes are available for $45 which will cover 10 swims and can be used for both Lap & Rec Swim.
