Welcome to the Licenses & Permits page where you can access information, applications and additional resources pertaining to permits and licenses issued by the City of Atascadero.

General Information

  • Permitting, business licenses, property information, and planning/building questions and services are available by appointment, phone, or e-mail. General questions can be sent to permitcenter@atascadero.org or answered by phone at (805) 461-5000.
  • Permits eligible for e-submittal can also still be accepted through email.
  • New Business License applications can be mailed, along with a check made payable to City of Atascadero at: City of Atascadero, Attn: Community Development, 6500 Palma Ave., Atascadero, CA 93422.
  • Available for use by arrangement, for renewal payments, there is a locked drop box located in the lobby of City Hall for payments and small submittals.
  • Questions regarding plan review comments should be directed to the reviewer. This contact information is listed in the left-hand margin of the corrections document.

Inspection Requests

Building, Planning & Public Works Inspections:
Inspection requests received before 5 p.m. (Monday thru Friday) will be scheduled for the next business day. Be sure to have the permit number, project address, type of inspection, and contact information available when you call the Inspections Hotline at (805) 466-8099. Please note, this is a message only system; you may call the front counter the next morning (after 8:30) to confirm your request.

Do I need a building permit?

See Work Exempt From Permit handout to determine whether or not your project is exempt from needing a permit.

What is the status of my permit?

Call (805) 461-5035 or email permitcenter@atascadero.org for the status of your permit.

How long will take to receive my permit?

The time frame for obtaining your permit will depend on the permit class. For an estimated time frame please view our submittal intake checklists.

Do I need an Intake Meeting?

At this time, all counter transactions require a scheduled appointment. You can schedule an appointment by calling (805) 461-5000.

How do I schedule an Inspection?

For Building, Planning and Public Works inspections, call the automated 24-hour inspection request hotline at (805) 466-8099. Inspection requests made after 5:00 p.m. will receive 2nd business day service. Inspections may be scheduled Monday - Friday. Please be advised, A.M. or P.M. requests will be accommodated as scheduling permits.

For Fire Department inspections, call (805) 466-3300.

What are the hours of construction in the City of Atascadero?

7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Noise Ordinance Section 9-14.03 (c)), or as specified in any applicable conditions of approval.

How do I learn about recent permit activity?
