Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services would like to inform residents and motorists that fuels mitigation crews will be working along Santa Cruz Road from Santa Ana Road to Garcia Road Starting Tuesday, May 27 through Wednesday May 28, 2025. This important roadside maintenance is part of a continued effort to reduce wildfire risk and improve public safety.

The work involves roadside brushing, a process that includes trimming and clearing overgrown vegetation along the road shoulder. This practice helps create defensible space, improves visibility for drivers, and provides better access for emergency vehicles in the event of a fire.

This project is being carried out in partnership with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council and is funded through a fuels mitigation grant recently awarded to the City of Atascadero.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and remain alert for crews and equipment operating near the roadway. Temporary traffic delays may occur. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as this critical wildfire prevention work is completed.
