EQUIPMENT DISPATCHED: 6 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 3 Command Vehicles from the following agencies: Atascadero Fire, Templeton Fire, Cal Fire- San Luis Obispo County, and Santa Margarita Fire.

NUMBER OF PERSONNEL USED: 23

DESCRIPTION OF CONDITIONS UPON ARRIVAL: Upon arrival, Atascadero Police units and the Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services Battalion Chief found a two story multi-family residential building with an exterior balcony of a second story apartment actively involved in fire. Flames on the outside had already progressed into the attic. After completing a full 360° assessment, the Battalion Chief confirmed that the attic contained extensive, well established fire throughout and continued the full structure fire response.

ANY UNUSUAL PROBLEMS DURING FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATION: At the time of dispatch, both Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services engines were committed to medical emergencies. Engine 7591 cleared Twin Cities Hospital quickly after completing a patient transfer and responded to the incident. On 7591’s arrival, there was significant fire present throughout the attic, which crews accessed through the main apartment by breaching the ceiling. The lower unit sustained smoke and water damage, while the remaining two units experienced smoke damage. All four units were rendered uninhabitable, displacing seven occupants who received assistance from the Red Cross for temporary accommodations.

MINUTES UNTIL EMERGENCY WAS CONTROLLED: The fire was fully knocked down at 10:35 AM, roughly 28 minutes after dispatch. Crews then completed extensive overhaul operations, remaining on scene for approximately two hours.

INJURIES TO EMERGENCY PERSONNEL OR CIVILIANS: None.
