The City of Atascadero continues efforts to improve roadways by recently awarding a construction contract for the Santa Lucia Road West Pavement Rehabilitation Project to Souza Construction.
This project will rehabilitate approximately 1.75 centerline miles (3.5 lane miles) of Santa Lucia Road (from Portola Road to Santa Ana Road and from Santa Ana Road to Laurel Road). These segments are classified as a collector roadway, providing access to and from significant sections of the City’s west side residential areas.
Full roadway reconstruction is anticipated to begin the week of September 8th, with pre-construction activities including potholing and culvert replacement ongoing through September 5th. Due to the complexity of the improvements and need to provide access for residents and the traveling public, the work is expected to take approximately 3.5 months to complete. During construction, some inconvenience, including 15-minute delays, is expected for vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the roadway segments. The contractor will be responsible for supplying traffic control and flaggers, and residents are asked to be respectful of construction workers and drive carefully through this area during work. Motorists should anticipate travel delays and plan accordingly.
The roadway improvements follow the recently completed Santa Lucia Bridge Replacement Project. The award winning project included a full bridge replacement and revegetation effort in Graves Creek.
