On March 6, 2026, at about 1:30 a.m., an Atascadero Police Department sergeant was patrolling the 5900 block of Entrada Avenue when he spotted someone who appeared to be spray-painting graffiti on the wall of a local business.
When the sergeant attempted to detain him to investigate, the suspect ran from the area. After a search, the suspect was eventually found hiding behind Malibu Brew, in the 5900 block of West Mall.
Michael Josiah Brown, 20, of Grover Beach, was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, officers learned Brown had reportedly performed earlier in the evening with a band at a nearby business. Officers also located fresh graffiti at two businesses in the 5900 block of Entrada displaying the band’s name. It is believed the graffiti had been done to promote the Brown's band.
Brown was transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail and booked for felony vandalism and misdemeanor resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer. The investigation remains open and active while APD investigators track down Mr. Brown's accomplices.
